LumeGrid · Caption Files

Caption files your viewers actually read.

Auto-captions are free, and they look it: drifted timing, mangled names, walls of text. We deliver word-timed .srt + .vtt files, with every cue kept to 2 lines of up to 42 characters, and your names and terms spelled the way you list them.

Your first video is captioned free (up to 15 minutes). Put it next to the auto-captions before you pay anything.

01 · What you get

Two files. Timed to the words.

Every video returns an .srt (SubRip) and a .vtt (WebVTT) file. Upload either to YouTube; both work everywhere else too.

Speech-aligned timing

Cue timing comes from word-level timestamps in the speech-to-text pass, so each cue starts and ends with the words it carries.

Readability rules, every cue

1 to 7 seconds per cue, max 2 lines, max 42 chars/line, reading speed ≤ 20 cps. No overlapping cues, no empty cues, nothing past the end of the video.

Editorial pass

Names, numbers, and technical terms spelled the way you list them. Speaker changes labeled. Relevant sound cues noted: [music], [laughter]. Profanity transcribed as spoken.

Same rules on every cue

Every cue has at most 2 lines of 42 characters and reads at under 20 characters per second.

Press play and the captions on the player are the actual .vtt file below. We ran our 82-second explainer demo (read by a stock digital voice) through our standard pass: open-source faster-whisper speech-to-text (small.en), then cue building with the readability rules above. Result: 21 cues, max 42 characters per line, max 17.2 characters per second, every cue 2.0 to 6.5 seconds long, no overlaps.

04 · How ordering works

Here’s what happens next.

How to order:
1. Pay via Stripe for the tier that fits ($5, $12, $19, or $19/month).
2. Stripe sends you straight to a short order form.
3. On that form, add your video link (YouTube, Drive, Dropbox, or any download link), your video length, and any names or terms we should get right.

Then: we match your order to your payment, and your files are due within 24 hours. To send files or ask a question, email hello@trylumegrid.com. Your .srt + .vtt files arrive by email when they’re done. (Flat price by tier. If your video runs longer than the tier you paid for, we’ll send a balance invoice before starting.)

No account needed. Questions before ordering? Email hello@trylumegrid.com.

06 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

What counts as a “video minute”?

One finished minute of your video. A 10-minute video fits the $5 tier (up to 20 minutes).

How is this better than YouTube’s auto-captions?

Auto-captions drift out of sync, mangle names and technical terms, and ignore readability: walls of text flashing past. Every cue we ship is capped at 2 lines of up to 42 characters and paced under 20 characters per second.

Can’t I make captions from a transcript myself?

You can, but a transcript is only the text. Captions also need a start and end time on every cue, pacing slow enough to read, and line breaks that don’t strand words. We time each cue from word-level timestamps of your audio and send a finished .srt + .vtt, so you skip that work.

Do you label speakers and sound effects?

Yes. Speaker changes are labeled, and relevant sound cues like [music] or [laughter] are noted.

What do you need from me?

A video link (public or unlisted) or the video file. That’s it. Pronunciation notes for unusual names are welcome but optional.

How fast is turnaround?

Within 24 hours for each video up to 120 minutes. There’s no rush fee because every order gets the same 24 hours.

What if I don’t like the free sample?

Then don’t order. The free first video exists so you can judge the difference against auto-captions with zero risk.

Your first video is free.

Send one recent video (up to 15 minutes). We’ll caption it (SRT + VTT, full readability pass) and you compare it against auto-captions yourself. No card, no catch.

First video free (up to 15 minutes). This form needs a link. If your video isn’t online, email the file to hello@trylumegrid.com instead. After that: from $5 per video, or $19/month for 240 minutes · within 24 hours.
